Whitworth merged with Spokane Junior College in 1942, when the latter shut down due to financial difficulties during World War II.

Whitworth’s campus in northern Spokane has 200 acres (0.81 km2) of stately pines and wide-open green spaces. The 28,000-square-foot facility houses all of the coaches and staff of the university’s 22 athletic programs, who used to be spread out among six buildings, and includes coaches’ offices, a football locker room, conference rooms, public lounges and a 162-seat team room.
